January 19, 1962

Place: Kahaluu
Weather: Hot

Walked down to Carol's to visit few minutes.
took Amy to House of Coral and perfume factory
things are quite reasonable there.
Amy bought a shell turtle for her pen pal.
Went over to Michi's for supper
all Japanese food.

January 18, 1962

Place: Hickham Field.
Weather: Windy,

Joe called at 8:30 from hickham field
and we got there at 9:15 to pick him up.
He lost about 15# and looks real good.
Jack's leaving about 8 PM for mainland.
Joji spent most of the day sorting his clothes.
He brought me a sweater from Mcmuado
and a tiki from Fiji.
the family came over tonight.

January 17, 1962

Weather: Warm

8 AM Cable from Joji to say he's stuck in Fiji.
took Joe's folks to the Consul for alien registration
drove by way of the Pali and saw the beautiful
view of the valley. Michi came over tonight and brought me a
blue muu-muu.

January 16, 1962

Place: Kahaluu
Weather: Rain and cooler

Last night it really rained and the wind was quite strong
It wake Joey at 3 AM It rained most of the AM
up to about 2:30.
We visited Setsu and Joey hit his head with a toy piano.
Still no word from or about Joji.

January 15, 1962

Place: Kaneohe
Weather: Rain showers

Called Hickam but found out nothing.
did some ironing for Shigeko.
Karen visited and we all went down to shopping center.
Joey sat in his car seat still nothing from Joji.

January 14, 1962

Place: Kahaluu
Weather: Warm
Still no word from Joe. Mrs U. Higa visited and left $5 for joey.
carol, one of tenants has loaded us a car seat and stroller,
now Joey can sit up instead of having to be held all the time.
she has three girls-the oldest 4 years is a spastic and very pitiful.

January 13, 1962

Place: Kahaluu
Weather: Warm 75
Shigeko was busy with the pigs all morning so Amy helped Watch Joey.
After lunch we Visited Joji's other Aunt and did some shopping.
Joey took 11/2 hour nap this AM so was real good
when we were out. Lowrance and Nancy and
Joji's folks came over tonight and also Mr and Mrs Kijaba
came they gave us for $5 for joey.
write  to Dad this AM.
grandma bought me a flannel nightgown and some towels.
She was worried I'd catch cold at night.

January 12, 1962

Place: Kahaluu
Weather: Warm 73
One of the tenants visited today for almost an hour.
she's from Ohio. After lunch we went to visit Joe's aunt and
his cousins wife Dorothy. while there the car tire went flat
and we had a terrible time jetting the jack to work.
Joey was real good all day. He's getting a little heat rash
so I'll try leaving his pants off except at night.
every breakfast now he eat a little papaya.
Dorothy gave us bananas that had been blown down
by saturday's storm. Joe's Aunt gave me $5 for joey.

January 11, 1962

Weather: Warm
Joey woke early at 6 AM so I got up too.
still quite still He's a little better tempered today
but still gets scared probably his teeth are bothered him.
We took a ride to visit Nancy and Michi and the rest of the time just relaxed.
Nancy loaned us some toys.

January 10, 1962

Place: Los Angeles ~ Honolulu
Weather: Damp ~ very warm

up at 6:15 to leave by 7:15 for the airport  still quite foggy.
Another due to engine trouble.
but finally at 9:15 we took off .
saw the mountain in the distance
and then the coat and the ocean.
had breakfast of scrambled eggs an canadian bacon
with sweet rolls etc. joey's been pretty good.
Arrived at 12:30 and family met me complete with leis.
Joey cried all the way home.
the farm is lovely with the mountain in the distance in three sides in the ocean an the fourth side.
Joey finally went to sleep at 7:00 everyone come over for supper
and talked and waited. Lies were of plumeria, tuber, roses and mums.

January 9, 1962

Place: Madison ~ Chicago ~ L,A
Weather: cold ~ very cold -15 ~ 61

Left Madison at 2:15 Arrived Chicago 3 PM
Joey slept all the way.
Had an hour delay at O'Hare and finally Arrived L,A at 6:30 PM
sent a wine an them called Richard
while waiting for them saw Chubby Cheguen an Roger Smith , his wife an baby.
boarded plane at 8:15 an sat until midnight waiting for the fog to lift.
then they told us they'd put us up overnight at the Thunderbird motel.
so off we went by bus complete with bags and crabby babies.
finally at  1 AM we went in a room.
joey didn't sleep much and I just ached all over.
 (Bobby Rydell was also on our flight.)

January 7, 1962

Place: Watertown ~ madison
Weather: cold, snowing

Left home at 11 AM after a 8"snowfall.
As we got nearer Madison the snow strapped.
when we got to T? our flight had been cancelled
and Chicago's O'Hare field was closed.
Decided to go home and try to get a flight on Tuesday.
Joey was real good and slept most of the time we were driving.
